Akshaye Khanna is the younger son of actor Vinod Khanna from Vinod's first marriage. His older brother Rahul Khanna is also an actor.Akshaye did his schooling from Bombay International and later from Lovedale School in Ooty.
He did his graduation from HR College, Mumbai.In 1997, Akshaye made his debut in his father's production Himalaya Putra, which didn't do well at the box office. In 1997, he starred in JP Dutta's Border, which became the highest grossing film of that year and earned him the Filmfare Best Debut Award.
In 2001, Khanna appeared in Farhan Akhtar's cult classic Dil Chahta Hai which turned out to be a turning point in his career; the film was a commercial and critical success and Khanna's performance was particularly applauded, later validated by first Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2002.
In 2002, he was signed on by Abbas Mustan for their film Humraaz, in which he played a negative role for the first time. He was critically acclaimed for his role and it also earned him the nomination for Filmfare Best Villain Award.Akshaye's portrayal of Harilal Gandhi in the critically acclaimed, Gandhi, My Father (2007) was also well received.
Akshaye starred opposite Madhuri Dixit in her comeback film Aaja Nachle (2007). Unfortunately, the film bombed at the box-office. But his film Race with Saif, Bipasha and Katrina was a hit. Akshaye was seen in a special appearance in Luck By Chance.
he starred in Anees Bazmee's No Problem, co-starring with Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor and Kangna Ranaut.His later releases did not fare well at the box office but his performances in Aakrosh (2010) and Tees Maar Khan (2010) were well-received by critics and audiences alike.
