Arjun Singh, (Madhya Pradesh INC Rajya Sabha) was elected as a member of the Lok Sabha in December 1985 and was re-elected in 1991 and 1996. In April 2000 and 2006 Arjun Singh was elected as Rajya Sabha member. He held the post of Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh twice and Governor of Punjab once for a short period. He has also served as the Minister of Education and Minister of Planning and Development for Madhya Pradesh government. Arjun Singh was appointed as Vice-President of the Congress on January 19, 1986; Member of the Congress Working Committee and Central Parliamentary Board; Member of the National Integration Council and its Standing Committee; Convener, All Party Committee on Punjab; President, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), Madhya Pradesh on December 9, 1989 and Working President of Indian National Congress (Indira) on May 22 1995; elected to the Congress Working Committee at AICC session, Tirupati in April 1992 with the highest margin of votes and again in July 1997; attended the meeting of the Ministers of nine most populous developing countries in Paris, 1993; resigned from the Council of Ministers on 24 December 1994; became Member of the Indian National Congress again in 1997; nominated as Chairman of Minority Department, AICC in April 1999; Nominated Member of the Indo-Russian Parliamentary Friendship Group on November 28, 2001.
