Hands clapping, gruff and hoarse voices singing in unison, this is how transgender or eunuchs are depicted in Bollywood. We list some actors who played the role with utmost perfection, we accidentally fell in love with them.
Sanjay Dutt – Hindi Version of Kanchana
Latest we hear is that Sanjay Dutt might play the transgender role which was enacted by Sarathkumar in the Tamil/ Telugu version of Kanchana. After seeing Sanjay Dutt with his beefed up dreaded villainous look in ‘Agneepath’, it would be quiet a ride if he says yes to play a eunuch. We are anticipating!
Mahesh Manjerekar – ‘Rajjo’
Stepping out in bright salwar kurtas and sarees with loud make-up and gaudy baubles seemed to be an easy task for Manjrekar. Being a the versatile actor that he is, the role required a lot of preparation and he didn’t complain! Voila. Mahesh plays the role of ‘Begum’ in his upcoming film titled ‘Rajjo’. The director-actor is endearing patience, really it is time to get his acting skills to test, also getting done with all the make-up and costumes could take a while! But we are waiting!
Ashutosh Rana – ‘Sangarsh’
Ashutosh did it twice! Ashutosh played a true-life eunuch politician Shabnam Mausi. Dressed in cotton sarees, Ashutosh wore little makeup but depicted the life of the politician brilliantly, so say the critics. This wasn't the first time that Rana got into drag. In Tanuja Chandra's ‘Sangharsh’, which catapulted him to heinous fame, Rana had dressed up as a woman to outwit the law.
Sadashiv Amrapurkar – ‘Sadak’
Mahesh Bhatt assigned Sadashiv Amrapurkar as Maharani in ‘Sadak’, an eunuch who was the villain of the movie. The portrayal fetched the actor the coveted filmfare award in 1992. Maharani in ‘Sadak’ came across as a vile, inhuman specimen.
Paresh Rawal – ‘Tamanna’
Once again the maverick Mahesh Bhatt decided to direct a movie on the life of eunuch Tiku, however this time with a difference, it was a real life story. Titled ‘Tamanna’ played by Paresh Rawal was an eye-opener to the Indian audience.
Prashant Narayanan – ‘Murder 2’
Terror was redefined in MURDER 2 as the Bhatt's were attempting to re-launch Prashant Narayanan. From a sadistic slasher to an amnesiac actor, Prashant Narayanan switched shades in his character like a chameleon - credibly and effortlessly.
