Boman Irani is a Bollywood film and theatre star. He had started his career as a photographer and by playing small roles in theatre.
Boman made his Bollywood film debut in Josh in 2000.But Boman's most applauded role was in the role of dean Dr JC Asthana in Munnabhai M.B.B.S. Boman has since appeared in many Bollywood films playing a variety of roles ranging from comic roles in films such as Main Hoon Na and Waqt: The Race Against Time to serious roles in Lakshya and Being Cyrus.
Boman also appeared in a sequel to Munna Bhai M.B.B.S titled Lage Raho Munna Bhai, as a different character, Lucky Singh.
He is a graduate of Mithibai College in Mumbai. After his Polytechnic Diploma Course, he joined the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower and worked there as a waiter & room service staff.Thereafter, he joined his mother to run their ancestral bakery shop between Novelty and Apsara Cinema in South Mumbai.
At the same time he also established an Uncle Chips franchise in Dadar which ran until 1986 before shutting down owing to a loss.Irani turned to photography in 1987 and continued until 1989. He is a professional photographer.
Irani started out in a number of advertisements like Fanta, Ceat and Krackjack biscuits ('As Mr. Jack of the Krack and Jack duo').
It was with Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. that Irani became really popular. His role as J. Asthana earned him a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Comedian. Since then Irani has essayed many comedic, (Main Hoon Na, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Dostana, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Waqt: The Race Against Time, No Entry, 3 Idiots), supporting (Veer-Zaara, Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara, Lakshya, Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd., Sorry Bhai!, Page 3, My Wife's Murder), and negative roles in (Don: The Chase Begins Again , Don 2: The King Is Back and Eklavya).
Irani also hosted the IIFA Awards together with actor Ritesh Deshmukh in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 in Toronto.
Boman's wife's name is Zenobia and they have two sons Danesh and Kayur.
