Fauji (Devanagari: फौजी,Nastaliq: فوجی, translation: \"Soldier\") (1988) is a TV series about the daily life of an Indian Army regiment that aired on India\s national channel DD National in 1988. It was produced and directed by Colonel R.K. Kapur (Retired). The concept focuses on a batch of trainees into a commando school, their training and eventual induction as soldiers. The series starred popular Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan in a main lead and transformed him into an overnight heart throb at the time. The character played by Shahrukh Khan (Abhimanyu Rai) gained instant popularity due to its charm, peppiness and the exuberance with which Khan essayed the role. The success paved way for Shahrukh\s next series, Circus and his foray into filmdom.
