Jairam Ramesh is presently a Member of the Parliament of India represents Andhra Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha. An economist by profession, he is also the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry as well as the Minister of State for Power in the current Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government. He is also a member of three committees of Parliament - the Public Accounts Committee, the Standing Committee on Finance and the Committee on Government Assurances .
Moreover,he is a member of the Court of JNU, New Delhi. Jairam Ramesh is a member of the National Advisory Council that is chaired by Sonia Gandhi. He helped put together the National Common Minimum Programme of the UPA.
He is a man of diverse talents as he has authored a number of key Government reports in areas like energy, technology, capital goods, industrial policy and telecom. He even serves on the boards of a number of public institutions in India and abroad and has been a founding member of the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad.
