Jitendra Awhad MLC is a member of the Legislative Council of Maharashtra, and leader of the Nationalist Congress Party in Thane. Jitendra Awhad was born to Smt. Lilavati and Shri Satish Awhad. He went to St John Baptist high School, Thane in the year 1979. In the year 1980-81 he completed his HSC (science) & went to graduate from B.N Bandodkar College Thane. He completed his graduation in 1983-84. In the college, he was chosen as Gymkhana Secretary, and became secretary of the All India Students' Organization, a non political outfit.In the year 1982 he successfully launched a campaign against a rise in tuition fees. Awhad was also a representative of the Maharashtra Institute of Labour in the years 1987-88.Awhad completed his marine engineering studies in 1984-85. He continued to take graduate degree in personnel management. In 1980-82 he was general sectary of Thane District Youth Congress, and from 1988-91 Maharashtra Pradesh National Students Union of India (NSUI) chief secretary. From 1991-93 he was elected as general sectary of the NSUI, and also from 1991 he is president of the Akhil Bharitya Vanjara Youth Association.In 1996 Awhad was elected as youth congress president for Maharashtra.From 1993 till 1998 with the votes of sixty five thousand students he was elected as president of Thane Municipal Council educational panel.After the formation of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Awhad was elected as the first national president of NCP (Youth). From here he entered mainstream politics.He was elected as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) of Maharashtra in Feb 2002 till 2008 and again re-elected as an MLC from March 2008 till 2013.From 2002 till date he holds the post of Senate member of Mumbai University and also District president of NCP Thane. He also holds the post of president of the Indian Pilots Guild, the union of the airline pilots of the flag carrier of India - Air India. Jitendra Awhad has also taken up foreign tours. He represented the group of young parliamentarians to Israel. he also visited Spain for cultural exchangeAwhad has taken efforts to make the human pyramid known as Dahi Handi a world famous event.
