Nandan Nilekani was born in Sirsi, a small town in Karnataka; Nilekani completed his studies from Bishop Cotton Boys School, Bangalore, and then moved on to the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in the year 1973. Nilekani joined Patni Computer Systems in the year 1978 where he met N. R. Narayana Murthy.
After working for three years in Patni Computers he along with six other enthusiasts, led by Murthy, formed their own company, InfoSys which was later renamed as Infosys. Nilekani took over from Murthy as the Chief Executive Officer of Infosys in March 2002. Nilekani served as CEO and MD of the company for 5 years. His successor was his colleague Kris Gopalakrishnan. He is still working in an executive capacity within the company as a brand ambassador for the company.
Honors and Awards Padma Bhushan A member of 20 global leaders on the World Economic Forum (WEF) Foundation Board. Honored as one of Asia`s Power 25 The Most Powerful People in Business in Asia by Fortune magazine, 2004. TIME magazine honored him as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World in May 2006 Business Leader of the Year 2006 by Forbes Asia.
