Rang Rasiya is an upcoming release, directed by Ketan Mehta and starring Randeep Hooda and Nandana Sen
The film premiered at the Kolkata Film Festival to a packed theatre
The movie is based on the life of 19th century painter Raja Ravi Varma
Randeep Hooda plays the role of the artist, while Nandana plays his muse Sugandha
The movie has courted controversy for several nude and topless scenes by Nandana Sen
Sen has even received hate mail for playing the muse who doesn't hesitate to shed her clothes
In the film Sugandha had to face ostracism from society for baring her body as a model for the artist
The mythological characters of Sita and Draupadi were a source of inspiration for the role of Sugandha
The movie also shows how painting of goddesses painted by Varma, had been objected to at the time
The cast and crew have been overwhelmed by the response to the film at the Kolkata Film fest
Rang Rasiya is expected to be commercially released in February 2012
