New Delhi: It's politics as usual in Delhi. After the tragic death of a young Arunachal boy in the national capital, the parties are having a go at each other. "Where is the Delhi government?" Rajya Sabha MP and editor of the RSS Hindi weekly 'Panchajanya' Tarun Vijay asked. "No one has come to even console these students. The North East people have become something of a targeted segment in Delhi," he said. The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held protests on Friday over the incident while the Congress has threatened to hold a demonstration on Saturday outside the Delhi Police headquarters. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal too slammed the Delhi Police and decried the absence of accountability. Nido Taniam, the son of a Congress MLA in Arunachal Pradesh, was allegedly beaten up by 5-6 men at a sweetshop in Lajpat Nagar on January 29. He was found dead inside his room the next day. According to Taniam's friends, the shopkeepers had made fun of his hair and Taniam had broken a window pane in retaliation. As the matter escalated, the police was called in. Taniam was made to pay for the damages and was dropped back by the police at the shop where he beaten up again. His post-mortem is expected today. However, sources say that prima facie it appears Taniam died of internal injuries. The police has filed a murder case and detained three for questioning. The Home Ministry has sought a report from the police.
