A still from the show 'Chandrakanta'
The 41-year-old wife of a film and television producer-director allegedly committed suicide by taking an overdose of pills at her Khar residence on Thursday, the police said.
Anjali Agnihotri, wife of Sunil Agnihotri who directed the television soap Chandrakanta, left a suicide note
stating that no one was responsible for her death, the police said.
According to the Khar police, Anjali lived in an apartment at Nargis Dutt Road at Pali Hill in Bandra (West) with her husband, in-laws and two sons — Siddharth, 23, a pilot, and Adhish, 21, who helps his father in the production business.
The police said Siddharth returned home from work around 3pm, and left immediately for the gym. When he came back home two hours later, he found his mother lying in an unconscious state on her bed. When she didn’t wake up, he took her to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
The police discovered a suicide note in her bedroom where Anjali had written that she loved her family and was taking the drastic step as per her own accord. She further stated that no one should be held responsible for her death.
While collecting evidence, the police found an empty strip of a painkiller lying close to her pillow. The police said the strip had eight tablets, which Anjali is suspected to have consumed. Other medicine boxes were also lying nearby, a few of them empty.
“Her family, in their statement, said that Anjali had been depressed for the past two months. We have recorded an accidental death report and have preserved her stomach wash and viscera for forensic analysis,” said Mangesh Pote, senior inspector, Khar police station.
