With the western suburbs having the highest number of victims, it has sent alarm bells ringing among doctors and civic officials.

Most of the swine flu cases in July accounted from non-slum areas, according to Dr Mangala Gomare, deputy executive health officer of Epidemiology. Doctors and civic officials are now warning citizens to be careful and not neglect any kind of fever, asking them to get a medical check-up and blood tests done immediately.

Dr Abhay Choudhary, director of Haffkine Institute of Training, Research and Testing, said, “Swine flu is a worldwide phenomena and in comparison to last year higher number of cases are being reported even in western countries.

There is an increase in awareness and people are a lot more alert about swine flu this year, which is a good thing as early treatment helps in fighting the virus.”
