Udaykant Andekar held for conducting his campaign event without permission
The Samarth police yesterday arrested NCP's Udaykant Ranoji Andekar (48) for conducting a rally in his constituency Doke Talim (Panel No. 48) near Nana Peth without police permission. Apart from Udaykant, the police also arrested his brother Suryakant Ranoji Andekar (45) alias Bandu, a history-sheeter. Before the brothers were released, they were booked under several sections of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
Confirming their arrests, Sanjay Bhamburde, SI of Samarth police station, said, "The arrests were made under several sections of the CrPC." As per police records, both Bandu and Udaykant were earlier booked for their alleged involvement in a 2010 shootout case in which Somnath Baban Padwal alias Pappu was grievously injured. The court acquitted them last December, as it couldn't be proved that the brothers were present at the spot when the firing took place.
Also, to ensure that there are no law and order issues in the area, the police also took into custody: Ganesh Lakshman Komkar (32), Alim Nisar Shaikh (47) and Rahul Suresh Khelu (32). The trio has a criminal background and was picked up by the cops between 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm from areas falling under the Khadak police's jurisdiction. In the past week, the police have picked up around 200 history-sheeters from the area and released them after a warning.
