How many times will we have to witness this deliberate and cynical disruption?

In the absence of Manmohan Singh, who is in Tehran for the NAM summit, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi defended the UPA alliance in Parliament today. However unlike the Prime Minister who likes to quote Urdu couplets when hitting back at critics, Sonia was positively foaming at the mouth as she attacked the Opposition.

Here are some choice quotes from Mrs Gandhi in Parliament

"The proper forum for this (debate) is an active and involved parliament, not one that is held to ransom by blackmail, which has become the bread and butter of the BJP"

"How many times will we have to witness this deliberate and cynical disruption? This once again shows up the scant respect the BJP has for democratic values."

"What else can we conclude when its (the BJP) senior-most leader refers to our government as 'illegitimate', mocking the people of India for the convincing mandate given to us."

Not surprisingly, Parliament was adjourned again before any business could be conducted, for the sixth day in a row. Worryingly, the 15th Lok Sabha has been the most disrupted ever. A study reveals that there's been a 27% shortfall in working hours — a performance worse than 2004-09 or 1999-2004 of the NDA regime.

For her part, Sonia has been ten times the orator Manmohan Singh is. She rallyed her MPs to action and asking them to 'fight with a sense of purpose and fight aggresively'. We suppose its these kind of things that made her figure at the 6th spot on the list of the world's 20 most powerful women.
