A 24-year-old Rwandan national was allegedly gangraped by four farmers after being waylaid and abducted from a local vegetable market at a north Delhi village earlier this month, police said. While the perpetrators were arrested on Thursday evening, an inspector posted at the local police station had to face disciplinary action for delaying the registration of a criminal case in the matter.
Police said they had arrested the four men — the prime accused has been identified as Deepak, his servant Ashok, and Deepak's friends Praveen and Vikas, all of whom are aged between 24 and 26 and stay in the victim's neighbourhood.
“The victim, who moved to a rented accommodation at Wazirpur village with a partner in September this year, was allegedly abducted in a vehicle by two of the four accused who then took her to a secluded spot near the Yamuna river bank where they were joined by two more men,” said an officer.
According to her statement, the victim, who is pursuing a course in English from a private institute in Timarpur area, was shopping for vegetables when she was abducted on the evening of December 1.
The victim told police that Deepak and Ashok first snatched and destroyed her mobile phone to ensure she couldn't contact anyone for help and later began sexually assaulting her.
“Minutes later, they were joined by Praveen and Vikas who reached the spot on a motorcycle. The men then drove her back to the village and threw her outside a lane leading to her house,” the officer said.
She approached the police immediately but was allegedly told to return two days later after which she was taken for a medical examination at the Bara Hindu Rao hospital which confirmed sexual assault.
