There was uproar in Parliament's Upper House as home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde took a dig at nominated MP Jaya Bachchan saying, "Listen carefully madam, this (Assam) isn't a filmy issue."
The minister further said, "I am from Mumbai. I know the entire family. You are not allowing me to talk," when members erupted over his comment.
Jaya Bachchan was seen shouting down Shinde.
BJP's Arun Jaitley stood up for Bachchan, saying that she is distinguished in her own field and didn't deserve the 'taunt' from the minister.
The minister later apologised for his statement.
The minister was speaking in response to a debate on the recent Assam violence that left over 70 people dead.
