New Delhi: The Supreme Court will on Friday hear a PIL for women's safety filed by a former IAS officer. The PIL asks the government to ensure safety for women across the country and set up fast-track court proceedings of all rape cases. The PIL also asks for MLAs or MPs chargesheeted with crimes against women to be suspended. According to a report, two MPs and 42 MLAs are accused of crimes against women including rape. In the aftermath of the brutal Delhi gangrape incident, there has been huge public outcry against political parties giving tickets to tainted men, especially those who have rape charges against them. On Thursday, the ruling Congress expelled a local party leader in the Bodoland area of Assam who had been accused of raping a mother of two. Earlier, the Trinamool Congress suspended its partymen who had been caught on video heckling and throwing money at women dancers at their foundation day party.
