The CPI-M's women wing All-India Democratic Women's Federation took out a march to the state Assembly demanding a fresh probe into the Suryanelli gangrape case in view of the charge levelled against Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurien by the victim.
The LDF opposition also kept up the issue by raising it in the state Assembly again, protesting the UDF government's stand that a re-investigation in the case was not possible. Addressing the marchers, AIDWA leaders T N Seema, MP, and K K Shylaja said the government's position in the case amounted to 'gross injustice' to the victim and her family as well as all the women in the country.
Kurien's name figured again in connection with the case after the victim wrote to her advocate in Delhi on January 29 to explore the possibility of filing a review petition, seeking a fresh probe against Kurien.
