The National Security Guard (NSG) will now provide security to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, the elite force's chief said on Tuesday.

"We have been asked to give security to Akhilesh Yadav. The number of commandos (for those under NSG cover) varies from person to person. They will be deployed soon," NSG Director General Subhash Joshi told reporters on the sidelines of the force's 28th Raising Day here.

The decision to provide NSG security to the UP chief minister has been taken in the wake of home ministry revising its assessment of his security needs.

NSG, known for its counter terror operations, is also providing security cover to 16 VIPs including several state chief ministers.

Official sources said Sources Yadav will have a round-the-clock mobile security of 10-12 "Black Cats", as the force's personnel are known.
