The hindu shrine of Vaishno Devi in Jammu and Kashmir is on a high alert after an email that allegedly threatened revenge for the hanging of 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Kasab. The email has been traced to Bangalore and was allegedly sent by the Lashkar-e-Toiba to a hotelier in Katra.

According to the police, the email was received by AH Bhat, the owner of Devi Grand hotel, on November 24 threatening to target the shrine. While authorities in Vaishno Devi are on high alert, the Karnataka police have seized the computer and other equipments from which the email was sent.

Efforts are on to decode the email and find the sender. "We know that an email was sent from here. We are investigating that. We can't share the details of the mail as it hasn't come to us," Bangalore police commissioner Jyoti Prakash Mirji said.

DIG, Udhampur-Reasi, Jagjeet Kumar and other senior officials of central agencies visited Katra and reviewed the security arrangements there. Police have intensified frisking people, checking of vehicles and keeping an eye on suspected movements. The email could be a prank by some anti-national elements but no chances can be taken, the senior police official said.
