How did the releases this week fare at the box office? We take a look...

Spider-Man does amazingly well

The past week did not see any big ticket releases for Bollywood. The notable Hindi release has been the Sonu Sood-Naseeruddin Shah starrer 'Maximum'. Many considered the release date a huge risk, considering 'The Amazing Spider-Man' hit the marquee the same day and 'Maximum' proved to be a huge disappointment. The audience showed no love for the cop drama, choosing instead to go Spidey's way. Meanwhile "Gangs of Wasseypur" managed to hold its own this weekend too, cashing heavily on the lack of enthusiasm for the latest Hindi release.

BO performance of Maximum

Maximum

Verdict: Flop. Will not even manage to cross the 'average grosser' mark

All India collections: Rs 1.20 crores (weekend collection)

Audience reaction: Maybe fatigue of 'realistic' cinema failed to draw the audiences to the theatre. Coupled with the bad reviews it got, the film, that is a cop drama about encounter specialists, saw very little sales in tickets. Hazel Keech's item number also failed to light up the screen. The uneven narrative and lack of drama failed to hold the story together and the outcome of it is there for all of you to see. The performance of the film was dismal even during the weekend.

Projection for next week: Nothing could really help the film, which at most will fold up this Friday with a dismal collection.

BO performance of Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai

Veena Malik

Verdict: Total wash-out.

All India collections: Below the 25 lakh mark (weekend collection)

Audience reaction: To begin with, the film did not release in many theatres across the country. A section of the media ignored it altogether and failed to review it. Even for all the publicity she has managed to garner for herself over the years, the prospect of watching a Veena Malik film did not excite the audience at all. The film is a debacle, to say the least.

Projection for next week: Will not even recover a part of its cost. Will be counted as one of the largest disasters at the box office so far this year

BO performance of Supermen of Malegaon

Superman Of Malegaon

Verdict: Hit

All India collections: Rs 2 crore

Audience reaction: Critical acclaim proved to be a great fillip for the film and the film ran housefull over the weekend at most multiplexes. But the film will not collect as much because it was not released widely.

Projection for next week: The film will surely recover all its cost though it is unlikely to stay in theatres until next Friday.

BO performance of The Amazing Spider-Man

The Amazing Spider-Man

Verdict: Super-hit

All India collections: Rs 28.50 crores

Audience reaction: One of the most anticipated Hollywood releases this year, Spidey cast his web wide in the Indian market, by collecting Rs 28.50 crores this weekend. The movie opened to a huge collection and just fell just short of the Rs 30-crore mark. A new Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) coupled with Irrfan Khan’s role in the movie, excited all filmgoers. The housefull boards are expected to continue at most multiplexes for the rest of the week.

Projection for next week: Could go on to be a great grosser. With the film being a firm fave with kids  and their parents. It is bound to score through the week, even though the word-of-mouth publicity and the reviews have been mixed - oscillating between very good and bad.

Last week's results

Gangs of Wasseypur: Hit (will just recover all its cost. The film has lost out on its second-week collections due to The Amazing Spider-Man)

Teri Meri Kahaani: Flop (However, the film has done well overseas)
