'Ice Age 4: Continental Drift' doesn't leave you cold, but it's 'fur' from great. Like a history lesson that seems to have no end, the franchise has dragged on for longer than it should, and now that the core trio have all had a chance at romantic hook-ups, let this one be the last.

What's it about?
Scrat, the acorn-obsessed squirrel, triggers off a rift in the earth's core that leads to the break-up of the supercontinent Pangea. Elsewhere, family troubles prevail where mammoth Manny (Ray Romano) finds himself at loggerheads with his teenage daughter Peaches (Keke Palmer), and sloth Sid's (John Leguizamo) uncaring relatives dump his dim-witted grandmother (Wanda Sykes) in his care and take off. The continental drift now threatens to wipe out their home and so the animals must make for safer ground. However, Manny, Sid and saber-toothed tiger Diego (Denis Leary) get separated from the herd and find themselves stranded on an ice raft. They encounter a pirate crew led by a cruel ape called Gutt (Peter Dinklage), first mate Shira (Jennifer Lopez) and some other global castaways that include a Bengali badger called Gupta. Gutt invites Manny to be part of the crew, but the trio escape after sinking the ship. It's now a race for Manny, Sid and Diego to rescue their loved ones before the drift catches up and also deal with Gutt, who is bent on revenge.

The movie boasts of a star-studded vocal cast (that also includes Nicki Minaj, Drake and Queen Latifah), but the addition of one too many new characters leaves no place for any to really shine. We'd have liked to have seen the love track between Diego and Shira more fleshed out than that between Peaches and her molehog friend Louis. Fortunately, the chemistry between the main trio is still enough to carry this movie through and Sid's granny provides some genuine laughs.

What to do?
Although predictable, the movie does have its moments. Let this be the sequel you watch this weekend, because the other offering is far more likely to cause you brain freeze.
