Movie: Commando - A One Man Army
Language: English
Starring: Vidyut Jamwal, Pooja Chopra, Jaideep Ahlawat
Directed by: Dilip Ghosh

Commando - A One Man Army is a one man show. Fortunately the lead actor of the film comes out on top in the department of kicking a$$. There are moments of unintentional hilarity but not enough to eclipse the stunts done minus wires - a fact the makers proudly declare at the start.

What's it about?
Captain Karanvir's (Vidyut Jamwal) helicopter goes down in China and he's detained and tortured for a year thanks to the unwillingness of the Indian government to free him, fearing political backlash. Karanvir eventually escapes and runs into town cutie Simrit (Pooja Choora) who herself is fleeing home to avoid marriage with thug and politician AK 47(Jaideep Ahlawat, and yes that is his name in the film). Karan decides to help Simrit for lofty reasons of societal good and from there on, it's a game of cat and mouse for the couple and their pursuers.

There are two kinds of cinematic action we audiences are subjected to. The first is of the Ek Tha Crouching Tiger variety where megalomaniacal stars with no training and in poor shape make unbelievably high jumps and take out the villain with a single punch. The second, as seen in Commando, is a mix of Jackie Chan (from every movie) and Liam Neeson (from Taken) and we prefer this stuff by far since we're sick of leaving logic at home when seeing such films. Vidyut makes for a very good looking action hero, even if his expressions in the romantic bits seemed a bit constipated and his threats in rhyme felt silly. Pooja Chopra is annoyingly chirpy. Jaideep Ahlawat as the bad guy with a penchant for Santa Banta jokes, has some fun quirks but we wish he didn't whip off his glasses to reveal his icky pupil-less eyes as often as he does.

What to do?
Vidyut carries the entire weight of Commando on his beefy shoulders and it is for him alone that you should watch this film.
