While there are still music lovers who go gaga over the 'Breathless' by Shankar Mahadevan, here is yet another one - a different one, from a different person.

This is a rendition in Sanskrit and to the listener will appear as if sung in a breathless manner. This is a composition of a Vaishnavite preceptor called Vedanta Desika who lived in the twelfth century. He was a poet par excellence and belonged to the Vaishnavite cult propagated by Saint Ramanuja in South India. Of his many works, this is the only work in prose that covers the epic of Ramayana in one stretch. Moreover, this is recited in homes, the traditional way and is believed to bless the listener with peace and prosperity.

Dushyanth Sridhar - the artist who has rendered this composition is a young scholar, twenty-six years old. Currently a resident of Mumbai, he works with a leading consultancy services firm. He is an alumnus of BITS, Pilani and completed his schooling in Bangalore and Chennai. He learnt Sanskrit and Tamil scriptures from young age and is presently trained in the higher Vedanta under illustrious scholars. He has also learnt classical carnatic music. He is a regular speaker in leading Tamil television channels like Star Vijay, Doordarshan – Podhigai and Sankara, to name a few where he discourses on Hindu scriptures. As on date he has rendered over six hundred discourses worldwide and has many albums to his credit.

“To encourage our classical works and above all, Sanskrit – the language to which the world is yet to spot a match, it becomes imperative on us, the artists to take to the listener, the best of the pieces. This is undoubtedly, one such composition that I have been rendering since my childhood. I hope, this breathless-like rendition reaches the ears of many people worldwide and may the beauty of Sanskrit and of course Ramayana – the sweetest epic known touch their hearts”, says Dushyanth Sridhar who was excited about its release on the day of Sri Ram Navami – the day of Ram’s birth celebrated in a grand manner across India and in many parts of the world.
