Usually the audiences of Emraan Hashmi films are treated to a packaged deal of a novel story, good music and heavy doses of steamy scenes. His loyal fans though are in for a disappointment this time around as ‘Rush’ offers none of the above.
What’s it about?
Samar Grover (Emraan Hashmi) is an ambitious crime reporter in a news channel, Pulse 365. His constant aim to be at the top of the game leads to an interview with a sharp shooter, Prince (Murli Sharma), who admits to have killed a minister. Soon after the initial accolades for his work, Samar faces brick-bats because of office politics and is forced to resign. The film gets a bit interesting when Lisa Kapoor (Neha Dhupia) from a rival channel, Crime 24 offers him an opportunity of a lifetime.
The film that gets a little engaging with Lisa’s offer is ruined completely by her boss, Roger Khanna (Aditya Pancholi) with his over-the-top media baron image. What follows are few pointless sequences which include forced shots of women in bikinis sipping martinis in a pool party whilst our stud Roger negotiates an over-the-top deal.
A predictable fare, ‘Rush’ hardly does the same to your adrenaline. Neha Dhupia is seen strutting her stuff in formal dresses and flaunts a new short haircut in the movie. Her lack of skin show on screen adds another pointer to the disappointment list of the film. Also the infamous kissing scenes between Neha and Emraan that were leaked online and created a lot of buzz had almost no steam. Hashmi will surely have to strike back in his next one with a vengence if he has to keep Bollyood's serial kisser tag to himself (He didn't pucker up in his last film, 'Shanghai' also)! Sagarika Ghatge as Ahana, Samar’s fiancé is plain boring. Hashmi is the only saving grace of the film. He adds passion and conviction to his role but we blame the loosely carved supporting characters coupled with an inappropriate casting (read Aditya Pancholi and Sagarika Ghatge) for a drab script.
Like its name, audiences will rush out of cinema halls way sooner than the makers may have anticipated.
What to do?
Unlikely for a Hashmi movie, we suggest you to skip ‘Rush’. It’s a dull affair.
