Directed by: Boopathy Pandian

By Vivek Ramanathan

Director Boopathy Pandian who's known for action comedy flicks has joined hands with Vishal again after the success of "Malaikottai". It also stars the current favourite ‘Santhanam’ in an important role and Arjun's daughter Aishwarya debuts with this film. Vishal’s own production house Vishal film factory released the film big in key areas including Chennai.

What's it about?
The story revolves around Gauravam (Santhanam) who’s a famous cook taking marriage orders in Karaikudi. He was forced to take an order from a local rowdy and doesn’t know what to do. That’s where Saravanan (Vishal) and his friends help him escape from the town and promise him a new life by starting a restaurant in Trichy. There are two local goons in Trichy namely Kasi and Manna who are always at each other’s throat in the city. Immediately after landing at the city, Saravanan loses both money required to open the restaurant and Gauravam and gets tangled into a fight with the goons. n between all the chaos, Saravanan meets Aishwarya and it’s love at first sight for him. The rest of the story is all about how Saravanan finishes off all the goons and of course there is a flashback for the hero before the climax.

Boopathy Pandian has come up with decade old story again and has stick with the formula of songs, action, sentiment and comedy. The problem is the weak script and lack of strength to integrate all these commercial elements in screenplay properly. He is good at mixing humour at most unexpected circumstances and that’s the only thing that worked to some extent in this film with the help of Santhanam.

Vishal plays the typical mass hero again with silence in the start and a roaring fight towards the end. His act is mediocre and it’s high time that he starts concentrating on the scripts instead of again and again coming up with masala flicks and failing. Aishwarya Arjun doesn’t impress either and the romantic sequences between them fall flat. The film has not one but three main villain but all are just caricatures and help in adding more humour to the film rather than action. Current hot favourite comedian Santhanam is the only saving grace and his comic acts with the villains especially towards the end are hilarious.

Songs are regular template numbers from Thaman and the background score is average. There is nothing great to write about Cinematography or other technical aspects.

What to do?
Pattathu Yaanai is below average and not worth the money. So, better wait and catch in small screen for some laughs of Santhanam!
