This Valentine's Day, you can promise your girl friend the sky. An entertaining show that will light up the ‘sky’ will be held at Jantar Mantar from 6.30pm onwards on February 14.

Jantar Mantar, the 18th century built open-air astronomical observatory, is set to host two shows —
Luminosity and Flying Angles — as part of the Bonjour India, Festival of France 2013.

Luminosity, the inaugural event, is a creation of sculptors Patrick Rimoux and Nandita Palchoudhuri. It involves transfiguring reality through lighting up the monument including electronic music, visual arts and fashion. Jantar Mantar is an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)-protected monument.

“Luminosity would be held on February 14 while Flying Angles will be held on March 31 at Jantar Mantar,” said Thierry Robert, deputy cultural counsellor at the French embassy in Delhi.

Luminosity will have the theme of Indian astronomy owing to the fact that it is being performed at the still functional astronomical observatory. Flying Angels, an aerial show where the sky becomes the stage, will show angels perform an acrobatic dance and shower white flakes on the viewers sitting below.

Jantar Mantar is a set of masonry instruments to form an observatory, one of the five created by Maharaja Sawai Jaisingh II of Jaipur in the early 18th century. "The ASI director general held a meeting with French officials before the permission was given ,” said a senior ASI official.
