The one-day old baby who was thrown off the third floor of a building in Surat succumbed to serious injuries sustained on Friday morning.

The police are questioning the infant's mother and her husband. The baby's mother claimed that she was unaware of her pregnancy and became confused and thus, threw the baby out when she gave birth in the washroom. "I gave birth in washroom and got scared. I threw the baby out in state of confusion," said the mother.

The police said that they will register a case against the mother but questions are also being raised about the role of her husband. In a shocking incident, the infant was thrown off the building on Thursday but the baby miraculously survived the impact but stayed in a critical condition until Friday.

Meanwhile, the infant's mother too was found in an unconscious state and was rushed to a hospital. Doctors said that she too is serious.

The police claimed that a few locals have alleged that it was the mother who threw the baby. Police Inspector MN Parmar said, "The baby was thrown by a lady named Puja. We are investigating the reason for the same."
