Call it genius or just crazy opportunism, but the Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Mumbai has decided to take advantage of Olympic fever and will be launching a series of dishes inspired by various events at the London games this year. The new menu will be launched on July 27 at their restuarant Shamiana, and will be available to diners until August 12. While we're not exactly sure how javelin throw would translate into a baked cheescake on our plates, here's a look at what the menu will have on offer:
Backstroke = Cured norwegian salmon
The backstroke is one of the four swimming styles. This has the advantage of easy breathing, but the disadvantage of swimmers not being able to see where they are going
Springboard = Chicken meatball with morel cream
A springboard or diving board is used for diving and is a board that is itself a spring chicken meatball, morel cream
Decathlon = Batter fried asparagus
The decathlon is a combined event in athletics consisting of ten track and field events. batter fried asparagus
Steeplechase = Fried noodles, vegetable soya ginger
The steeplechase is an obstacle race in athletics, which derives its name from the steeplechase in horse racing
Epee = Truffled green pea soup
The epee is the modern derivative of the dueling sword, the smallsword. Epee is French for sword.
Triple Jump = Ghent chicken waterzooi
The triple jump is a track and field sport, similar to the long jump, whereby the competitor runs down the track and performs a hop, a bound and then a jump into the sand pit
Pole Vault = Root veg 'Lancashire' hot pot
Pole vaulting is a track and field event in which a person uses a long, flexible pole (which today is usually made either of fiberglass or carbon fiber) as an aid to leap over a bar.
Balance Beam = Japchae-glass noodles, vegetables kalbi
It is a small narrow beam which is raised from the floor on a stand at both ends. Gymnastics is performed using this apparatus only by female gymnasts.
Greco Roman = Spanakorizo (spinach risotto, feta, kalamata)

Keirin = Japanese gluten nugget curry

Quad Scull = Turkey stroganoff, beaten rice risotto
A quad scull is a rowing boat used in the sport of competitive rowing. It is designed for four persons who propel the boat by sculling with two oars, one in each hand.

Double Trap = Chicken tikka masala

Keelboat = Sea bass, chive mash, edamame and bacon

Show Jumping = Paella Valencia

Javelin = Baked cheesecake, cherry compote
