Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on Monday discussed with Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia various plans with regard to agriculture in the 12th Plan.
"The core purpose of the meeting was what we are going to do on agriculture in the 12th Plan. The Agriculture Minister shared various ideas," Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia told PTI after the meeting.
Sources said Pawar in the meeting suggested that the Planning Commission come up with a scheme to address the water scarcity issue in Sangli, Satara, Osmanabad, Ahmednagar, Beed and Pune regions of Maharashtra.
These areas face perennial shortage of water. Pawar wants a scheme in the 12th Plan that focuses on canal infrastructure to use stored dam water, they said. Monsoon rain have been deficient by 50 per cent in central Maharashtra affecting sowing and supply of drinking water in some parts of the state.
