Yuvraj Singh was treated for a rare germ-cell cancer in his lungs in the United States earlier this year.  He contracted mediastinal seminoma", but has fought back and even made a comeback to the pitch. Upon hearing of Martin Crowe's illness, Yuvraj tweeted, "Very sad to know martin crow has bin diagnosed of cancer! Hope god gives him and his family strength and courage to come out of it!"

Current England coach and former Zimbabwean southpaw Andy Flower underwent an operation to remove a cancerous lesion from under his eye during the 2010 Ashes series. The operation was a success and Flower has since helped his team become the world's number one Test playing nation.

American cyclist Lance Armstrong had developed stage three testicular cancer which had spread to his lungs, brain and abdomen. Doctors had given him a 40% chance of survival but after few operations, Lance survived to tell the tale and even wrote an autobiography titled 'It's Not About The Bike: My Journey Back to Life'.

Tennis icon Martina Navratilova was a victim of breast cancer and the star called it her '9/11'. She successfully underwent treatment and her story is inspiration for breast cancer patients the world over.

Cricketer-turned-commentator Geoff Boycott was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2002, after suffering a persistent sore throat. Boycott's underwent painful surgery to have four tumours removed, and has since returned to commentating for matches.

Australia were celebrating the success of the 1987 World Cup win when all-rounder Simon O'Donnell succumbed to severe aches and pains. He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma, but successfully underwent treatment and is today a cricket commentator.

French player and Barcelona defender Eric Abidal also fought against all odds when doctors discovered a 4cm long tumour in his liver. His tumour removal operation was successful and soon after, the footballer was seen on the pitch with his team when they won the Champions League 2011, defeating giants Manchester United in the finals.
