Sidelined due to a toe injury, struggling Australian paceman Mitchell Johnson says being
"bombarded" with advice on what to do and what not to do contributed to his career going downhill.

The 47-Test veteran, who will appear in the Indian Premier League for the first time after being bought by Mumbai Indians this season, said he would rework his approach to bowling after a disappointing 2011 during which he got just 13 Test wickets at 56.62.

Johnson said he was left confused by the unending advice he kept getting from former cricketers and coaches.

"As soon as I get too much information, I don't think it helps me. It's hard when you have a lot of people coming in and telling you what you should and shouldn't be doing," Johnson was quoted as saying by 'the Daily Telegraph'.

"That's what happens at the elite level. You can get bombarded with people's thoughts and ideas. It's how you deal with it and I didn't deal with it. I started changing things for no reason.

"I'm not blaming anyone, it's my fault. I need to improve the mental side of things and do what I know works for me," he added.

The 30-year-old said he is hopeful of winning back his place in the Test side.

"I need to get back in the Australian team but I know I have a lot of work to do," Johnson said.
