Govinda's much-delayed project 'Deewana Main Deewana' will release this Friday and while we're not particularly looking forward to it, we do have several fond memories of Chi Chi songs that made us dance our feet off as kids. Here are our top ten picks...
Meri Marzi (Gambler)
With madcap lyrics and hilarious choreography, ‘Meri Marzi’ from ‘Gambler’ made for an ultra-wacky song. Govinda gave the entire nation a mantra to chant to.
Main Toh Raste Se Jaa Raha Tha (Coolie no.1)
Undeniably the best jodi of the 90’s, Lolo and ChiChi delivered hit on his. This particular song was such a favourite with the masses, that it was an indispensable part of birthday parties and festivals.
Lal Dupatte Waali Tera Naam Toh Bata (Aankhen)
When Chunky Pandey and Govinda come together, this is what you got! Who can forget the funny actors chasing Namrata Shirodkar and Raageshwari in a garden, begging the ladies to reveal their names.
Pak Chik Pak Raja Babu (Raja Babu)
You can never sing this song while keeping a straight face. Shakti Kapoor (Remember, Nandu, sabka bandhu?) and Govinda had us in splits with this one.
Makhna (Bade Miyan Chote Miyan)
Watching Big B and ChiChi together in David Dhawan’s ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ was like watching a desi Laurel and Hardy spot. Amitabh and Govinda wooing Madhuri Dixit in this song made for an uproarious watch.
Tum Toh Dhokebaaz Ho (Saajan Chale Sasuraal)
We saw Govinda playing an innocent Bihari babu in David Dhawan’s ‘Saajan Chale Sasuraal’. This song was yet another typical Govinda number, where he is trapped between Tabu and Karisma, and unable to choose between the two
Kisi Disco Mein Jaaye (Bade Miyan Chote Miyan)
Like Karisma, Raveena too made a hit jodi with Govinda. ‘Kisi Disco Mein Jaaye’ is a Govinda gem that’s unforgettable.
What Is Mobile Number? (Haseena Maan Jayegi)
This song became an anthem when cellphones were introduced in the country. The song from ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi’ also made for an annoying ringtone that was heard everywhere during those days.
Ande Ka Funda (Jodi No.1)
Another David Dhawan film, ‘Jodi No.1’ saw Sanjay Dutt sharing screen space with Govinda in this song. ‘Ande Ka Funda’ is inspired by ‘My Name is Anthony Gonsalves’ from ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ and Govinda gave the song his own unique twist.
Soni De Nakhre (Partner)
When it comes to dancing, only Govinda can steal Katrina’s thunder. In ‘Soni De Nakhre’ from Partner, Govinda owns the dance floor with some mind-boggling moves.
