For his film 'Barfi!', actor Ranbir Kapoor has not worked on contorting his face in a number of ways but has also flexed his vocal chords and has sung for the track 'Fatafati'. Ranbir isn't the first to do so - Bollywood has seen many actors attempting to croon a line or four for their movies. Here are a few…
Abhay Deol, Hrithik Roshan & Farhan Akhtar: The song 'Senorita' in Zoya Akhtar's 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' saw not just the three actors shaking their booty, but also featured them singing! Director Zoya Akhtar insisted that the trio sing the song themselves along with Spanish artist Maria del Mar Fernandez. It was a first time for Abhay, as Hrithik and Farhan have already sung for their earlier films, 'Kites' and 'Rock On!!' respectively.
Aamir Khan: Aamir Khan had more than just the tapori act in the song 'Aati Kya Khandala', Khan did the playback singing for the song along with Alka Yagnik. The song was a runaway hit and is still an antakshari favourite!
Abhishek Bachchan: Junior Bachchan hit the bull's eye with his singing in 'Right Here Right Now' for the film 'Bluffmaster'. Not only was the song the talk of the town, but the choreography also impressed us. Abhishek’s second attempt, 'Thayn Thayn' song from the film 'Dum Maro Dum', was however, a disappointment.
Amitabh Bachchan: The Shahensha of Bollywood has floored us with his baritone while reciting dialogue, but who knew he’d impress us while singing too!. Big B turned singer with the quirky track 'Mere Angne Mein' from the movie 'Lawaaris'. His romance with the mic continued with 'Silsila', 'Mahaan', 'Toofan', 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' and 'Baghban' among others
Shah Rukh Khan: If the Shahensha did it, how could the King be left behind? SRK made his singing debut in the film 'Josh' with the song 'Apun Bola'. Though, critics slammed it as a cheap imitiation of Aamir's work with the ‘Aati Kya Khandala’ song, audiences found nothing to complain about.
Salman Khan: If Salman Khan's 'pungi' act in the film 'Hello Brother' wasn't enough, the actor also entertained the audiences with his song 'Chandi ki Daal'. A fun, dance number, this song is mostly played during dahi handi celebrations!
Sanjay Dutt: The beefy Sanjay Dutt picked up the microphone for his film 'Kaante' where he sang for 'Rama Re' with other singers. Dutt had previously sung 'Aye Shivani' for his film 'Khubsoorat', where he made fun of his nerdy love interest, played by Urmila Matondkar.
Sridevi: The beautiful Sridevi did more than just dance with her 'nau nau choodiya' in the film 'Chandni'. She also lent her voice to the fun title track along with singer Jolly Mukherjee. The film was a blockbuster hit and Sridevi was appreciated for her looks, acting, dancing and singing skills. Now that’s what we call real talent!
Dhanush: Dhanush became a national sensation after his song 'Kolaveri Di' went viral. The song is about a boy rejected by his girlfriend and his lament about her hard-hearted ways. This Tanglish (Tamil + English) song from the film '3' also became one of the most popular videos watched on YouTube that year
