From the much-awaited reboot of the movie franchise (The Amazing Spider-Man) to now celebrations to mark the superhero’s 50th birth anniversary on August 1, this year has certainly been the best for Spider-Man fans! Spidey has super strength and the ability to cling on to most surfaces (as a result of a radioactive spider bite). He can shoot spider-webs using devices of his own invention (web-shooters), and uses his ‘spider-sense’ to detect when danger is around the corner.

On TV, the superhero first appeared in the ABC animated series ‘Spider-Man’ (1967-1970) and the CBS live-action series ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ (1978–1979).

The wall-crawler first appeared on the big screen in the 2002 trilogy ‘Spider-Man’, where Tobey Maguire played the titular role. The other movies in the series include ‘Spider-Man 2’, and, ‘Spider-Man 3’. The franchise was in for an overhaul in 2012 with Andrew Garfield taking over from Maguire to play the superhero.
