Tony Greig (6 October 1946 – 29 December 2012)
Former England captain and celebrated commentator Tony Greig died after losing his battle with lung cancer in Sydney on December 29. Greig was 66. He breathed his last at a hospital in Sydney after being brought in "critical condition". He was diagnosed with lung cancer in October this year.
Sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar passed away on the 12. 12. 12, afterprolonged illness, at the age of 92. The winner of three Grammy awards wowedIndian and international audiences with his stunning performances. He is survived by his daughters, musicians Anoushka Shankar and Norah Jones, bothleading artistes in the music world.
Inder Kumar Gujral (4 December 1919 – 30 November 2012)
India's former Prime Minister, passed away on Friday following hospitalization for a lung infection. He was the Prime Minister of the country from April 21, 1997 to March 19, 1998.
Bal Thackeray (January 23, 1926 - November 17, 2012)
Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray died on November 17 in Mumbai. The 86-year-old politician, who founded the Shiv Sena in 1966, had been ailing for some time.

Dara Singh (19 November 1928 - 12 July 2012)
The wrestler-turned-actor with a stint in politics, was an example of healthy 'pehelwaan-style' living. He died of a cardiac arrest at his home in Mumbai.

She was a child artist best known for her role with Amitabh Bachchan in the Hindi flick 'Paa'. The 14-year-old was killed in a plane crash.
Vilasrao Deshmukh (26 May 1945 - 14 August 2012)
Union minister and the former chief minister of Maharashtra, Vilasrao Deshmukh died due to liver disease.
Ashok Mehta (1947 - August 15, 2012)
The National Award winning cinematographer was part of many noted Bollywood projects. He died of lung cancer at the age of 65.
Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963 - February 11, 2012
Houston was one of the world's best-selling music artistes. Her tragic death was caused by accidental drowning in the bathtub due to the effects of chronic cocaine use and heart disease.
Verghese Kurien (26 November 1921 - 9 September 2012)
