Shocking but true! Thirteen-year-old Aditya Ranka from South Mumbai was allegedly kidnapped by his cousin Himanshu and then brutally murdered by his friend. The cousin had reportedly lost Rs 10 lakh over betting on IPL matches. Himanshu, an MBA, hatched the plot after losing money in an IPL bet. After his hand in the kidnapping was discovered, Himanshu got Aditya hacked and burned to death by his friend.

British woman rape: Just days after the gangrape of a swiss tourist in Madhya Pradesh, comes another shocker in Agra. A British tourist was injured as she escaped an alleged sexual assault bid on her. According to the FIR registered - she jumped off the balcony of her second floor hotel room after the owner of the hotel tried to molest her. He was later arrested.

A controversial builder from Navi Mumbai, Sunil Kumar, 50, was brutally assaulted and then shot at by two persons outside his office as he got out of his car. While one of the attackers escaped, Kumar's staff and passers-by caught Venkatesh Shettiar, 35. The murder was caught on a CCTV camera.

The heinous murder of Sandhya Singh, the eldest sister of sister of Bollywood composer duo Jatin and Lalit, sent shockwaves through the industry. Sandhya, 50, had been missing since December 13, 2012 from her residence in the NRI Colony at Seawoods Estate, Thane. Forty-nine days after her disappearance, police in Navi Mumbai recovered remains suspected to be of Sandhya. Family members and neighbours have told the police that Sandhya, had a strained relationship with her son Raghuveer, 22. She had filed a complaint against him after a fight.

Liquor baron Ponty Chaddha and his brother Hardeep, who had an ongoing property dispute, were killed in a shootout at their Chattarpur farmhouse in South Delhi on November 17. On November 23, after a series of arrests and interrogations, Sukhdev Singh Namdhari, chairman of Uttarakhand's minority commission, who was also present at the farmhouse during the incident, was arrested for shooting at Ponty’s brother Hardeep.

A 27-year-old Spanish national was robbed and raped in her Bandra home by a man, who gained access to her home by climbing a sewage pipe, on November 6. The robber threatened the victim with a knife and asked her to hand over her gold and when she denied possessing any, he forced himself upon her. He carefully wiped his fingerprints before fleeing with cash. The main suspect identified as Mohammad Ismail has pleaded not-guilty and the matter is currently sub judice.
25-year-old lawyer Pallavi Purkayastha was murdered by the watchman of her apartment in Wadala, Mumbai. Watchman Sayyuz Pathan took advantage as she was alone at home and cut the electricity supply to her apartment, stole the keys of her flat and later used them to enter the house and tried to rape her at knifepoint but when she resisted, he stabbed her around 6 times.
On April 7, senior citizen Arun Kumar Tikku was killed by Vijay Palande, 'paying guest' and so-called friend of his son Anuj. After killing Arun, Palande wanted to kill Anuj too and usurp their property. This however did not happen. Palande is now in police custody.

A 20-year-old shooter Adam Lanza gunned down 20 children and 6 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14. He later shot himself dead after the shooting rampage. The gunman first killed his mother and then drove to the school and shot the students and employees. With 28 people dead it was the second-deadliest school shooting in US history, after the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre.
