Aliens have long been making us squirm in our seats. But while Hollywood takes great pains to create alien characters, Bollywood’s aliens end up looking like poor imitiations. Take a look at the aliens in Shirish Kunder’s ‘Joker’, that have been spotted everywhere as the makers promote the film. We pit them (and some others) against some of Hollywood’s finest:

Karela versus Independence Day’s alien
Meet Mr. Karela, who is the dowdy version of the alien from Will Smith’s ‘Independence Day’. The original sent a chill down our spine, whereas this one makes us roll our eyes.

Kadoo versus ET
The head resembles ET’s, but neck down this alien is actually a ‘pumpkin’. Yes, you heard it right - a pumpkin! Farah Khan introduced it as ‘Mr.Kadoo’ on a show. She also stated that they were ‘village aliens’. Silly us, for thinking that aliens were from outer space!

Pappu versus Predator
We know the comparisons seem far fetched here but there certainly are many similarities between Pappu and the deadly creature from ‘Predator’.

Tara versus Serleena
Jacqueline Fernandez played Tara, an alien from Venus, who came down to Earth to find love in Milap Zaveri's 'Jaane Kahaan Se Aayi Hai'. Jacqueline plays a bumbling extraterrestrial, and the movie was more a silly rom-com, than a sci-fi flick. She's beaten hands down by femme fatale Serleena (Lara Flynn Boyle) from 'Men in Black 2' who uses tentacles to eat those who come in her way.

Jadoo versus ET (again)
‘Koi… Mil Gaya’ is one of the few Bollywood movies that featured an alien and was a blockbuster hit. Rakesh Roshan liberally borrowed from Steven Spielberg’s classic ‘E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial’ and gave it a desi touch. Jadoo was convincing, and appealed to kids. However adults continue to wait for a decent Bollywood alien movie, that scares us silly. Are we expecting too much? Tell us in the comments section!
