This is also the story of Sita, daughter of King Janak of Mithila. In a swayamwar where kings from all over India took part, Prince Rama was the only one to not only wield but even break the mighty bow and win the hand of Sita in marriage.
While everybody in Ayodhya waited for King Dasarath to anoint Rama and Sita as the next King and Queen, the evil Manthara plotted a conspiracy with Kaikei to get the king to banish Ram to the jungles for 14 years and make Bharat the next King of Ayodhaya.
As the distraught King Dasarath to keep a promise to Kaikei, banished Rama, his bride Sita and younger brother Lakshman also chose to undertake the hardships in the jungle for 14 years alongside Ram.
While Rama, Sita and Lakshman tried to make a life in the jungles, they were visited by Suparnekha, a rakshasa woman and sister of Ravana who attempts to seduce Rama. Lakshman stops her by cutting off her Nose and ear
Ravana vows to avenge Suparnekha’s humiliation and plots with Demon Maricha to abduct Sita. Maricha transforms into a golden deer and captivates Sita’s attention who pleads with Rama to capture it for her. Rama leaves Sita in charge of Lakshman and goes in pursuit of the golden deer.
With the coast clear, Ravana appears in the disguise of a Sadhu and requests Sita’s hospitality. Unaware of the devious plan, Sita crosses the lakshman rekha and is forcibly carried away in his Golden Chariot.
Jatayu a vulture and a worshipper of Rama, tries to stop Ravana in his evill ways but is mortally wounded. When Rama & Lakshman come searching for Sita, he informs them that Ravana has kidnapped Sita and has taken her to his kingdom Lanka.
Rama & Lakshman meet Hanuman, the great monkey hero. Hanuman with the support of Sugriva and his Vanar sena decides to help Rama in his search for Sita.
Hanuman assumes a gigantic form and flies across the seven seas to Lanka in search of Sita. When Sita refuses to accompany him back citing that Rama himself should avenge the insult of her abduction, Hanuman destroys Ashoka Van and allows himself to be captured by Ravana’s guards
When captured Hanuman is produced in Ravana’s court, Ravana orders that his tail is to be set on fire as punishment
Hanuman allows his tail to be set on fire but then assumes a gigantic shape and escapes after burning the beautiful city of Lanka.
After receiving Hanuman’s report about Sita, the vanar sena construct a floating bridge across the ocean so that the army can cross over to Lanka.
A lengthy battle started between the demons led by Ravana and the Vanars led by Rama, Lakshman & Hanuman. The demons were very powerful and were winning.
Lakshman is fatally wounded and can be saved only by a secret herb found in the Himalayas. Hanuman flies off to the Himalayas to look for the sanjeevani but due to shortage of time, is unable to locate the sanjeevani.
Hanuman again assumes a gigantic shape and lifts the entire mountain and brings it Lakshman and saves his life
Rama uses the most powerful weapon, the Brahmastra gifted to him by Brahma.
Rama fires the Brahmastra at Ravana therby killing him and destroying evil from the world. The battle between good and evil comes to an end.
Sita goes through Agnipariksha to prove her purity to Rama. Seeing her purity, Rama accepts Sita and they are united.
Rama’s 14 years exile period ends and he makes his way back to Ayodhya where he is welcomed back with much love by everyone. He assumes the throne and rules lives happily with Sita and his brothers.
