Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saraswatichandra suffers from Devdas hangover!
Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali spent the last two years missing in action and his baby was finally aired on television on February 25. Indian television now has a new love saga called 'Saraswatichandra' that's served up SLB-style! We happened to spot many similarities between SLB's telly magnus opus and his biggest filmi hit 'Devdas'. We're even going as far to say that the TV show suffers a major Deva-like hangover. Don't believe us? We break it down for you right here...
Daddy issues: Just like Shah Rukh Khan's father in 'Devdas' (Vijay Krishna), Saraswatichandra's father (Chetan Pandit) is a strict disciplinarian, disappointed by the ways of his seemingly good son. And like the film's character, Saraswatichandra is too choked by his sense of duty, to raise a voice against his father.
Ma da Laadlas: Like Devdas, who was tied firmly to his mother's apron strings, Bhansali's television hero is also a mummy's boy (the only difference is that Saraswatichandra's mum is dead)
Cuckoo, loverlorn heroine: Saraswatichandra's lady love Kumud(JenniferWinget) is a gorgeous, elaborately attired, demure and cuckoo heroine. She'd give Paro (Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan) a serious run for her money.
Of havelis and old world opulence: Sanjay Leela Bhansali's love for sets of epic proportions is visible in every frame of Saraswatichandra. The palatial home, costumes and opulent sets makes the serial a sort of wannabe period film - 'Devdas', to be precise.
