The ICC T20 World Cup will commence from September 18, and the finest in the fraternity will compete to be the world champions in the shorter version of the game. Here is our list of the batsmen who are bound to be the tourney's smash hits!
AB de Villiers:The skipper of the Proteas squad, AB de Villiers will carry the extra burden of leading his country to their maiden title. An explosive batsman who can turn any match on its head, AB de Villiers will certainly make bowlers sweat.
David Warner:
With a strike rate of 138.31, David Warner is one batsman who can give nightmares to even the likes of Lasith Malinga and Dale Steyn. Everybody has seen his swashbuckling batting style in the IPL and he will be a force to reckon with.
MS Dhoni:
After winning the inaugural T20 title in 2007, MS Dhoni would like to add another feather to his cap. He's led the Chennai Super Kings to victory twice in the IPL and Captain Cool's skipper skills and adventurous batting attack will be the stuff to watch out for.
Virender Sehwag:
Any bowler's worst nightmare, Virender Sehwag has the ability to really lead the attack for his team. With a strike rate of 150 plus, Viru is still the world's best opening batsman in the T20 format. If he comes to the party, India will be the favourites to bag the trophy.
T Dilshan:
With the home advantage on his side, Tillakaratne Dilshan can boost to his side's chances in this year's T20 World Cup. An attacking opening batsman and part time spin bowler, Dilshan will really be perfect combination for Sri Lanka's title charge.
Shahid Afridi:
The outspoken Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi may have lost some of his 'boom boom' image over the years, but there is still some magic remaining. His experience can be vital to Pakistan's young players, who will look to win the T20 title for the second time.
Craig Kieswetter:
The reigning champions of T20, the English will look to the hard-hitting wicketkeeper batsman Craig Kieswetter to deliver the big shots. In the absence of the experienced Kevin Pietersen, Kieswetter can be the key player for England at World T20 Championships.
Shane Watson:
The vice-captain of the Australian cricket team, Shane Watson's all-round capabilities can add some impetus to their attack. Though the Aussies have struggled on the sub-continental pitches, Watson's IPL experience can really be a boon for the men from Down Under!
Brendon McCullum:The Kiwis may not be the favourites but that won't stop Brendon McCullum from playing his usual game. Bowlers have to vary their lengths to bowl at this man as he can really send a loose delivery out of the park. Already a champion with Kolkata Knight Riders, McCullum's party is unlikely to have ended there.
Chris Gayle:
The West Indies will surely be the team to watch at this year's ICC T20 World Cup. The West Indian south paw who amassed 733 runs at this year's IPL season, Chris Gayle's number will be on every opposition team's hitlist. If he fires at the top of the order, the ICC had better make sure that they've arranged helmets to keep the audiences safe!
