23-year-old Preethi Rathi, a resident of Delhi, had just arrived in Mumbai by Garib Rath Express when acid was thrown on her face at Bandra terminus on May 3. She succumbed to her injuries on June 1 at Bombay hospital. She was on ventilator support for two weeks after her right lung had suffered severe damage which developed complications in her respiratory system as well. Preeti had arrived in Mumbai to join Colaba Naval hospital as a staff nurse. Her family has urged the government for a CBI probe into the same.
Are public places safe for women in India? There have been other heinous acid attacks in the past that leave us not so sure..
