In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old girl in Mumbai's Kandivili area suffered burn injuries after her neighbour (a 30-year-old man) allegedly threw acid on her. According to the police, it is a case of a jilted lover who had been stalking the victim for a while. She has sustained burn injuries on her neck and hand. Another woman who tried to help her also sustained burn injuries. Is Mumbai the new Delhi-Haryana-UP?

In November, a 26-year-old physiotherapist from Mumbai, Aryanka Hosbetkar, became an unfortunate victim of an acid attack. Jerrit G John, the owner of a film production house, was arrested in Mumbai for allegedly attacking Hosbetkar with a hazardous chemical. 46-year-old Jerrit, who is married, allegedly threw acid at his girlfriend when she dumped him after 10 months when he was caught carrying on yet another affair. Baby Anusha
An eight-year-old was killed by her own parents with an acid attack in Pakistan. Anusha was killed when her mother threw acid on her for looking at a boy. Anusha’s parents don’t regret the incident and say that it was her destiny to die this way!

Sonali Mukherjee
In 2003, Dhanbad based Sonali Mukherjee was drenched with acid by her neighbours. Sonali suffered 70 per cent burns which left her blind and deaf. Recently, she underwent a surgery to re-gain a near normal face. Help poured in from various NGOs which enabled Sonali to gather money for the surgery.
