What is wrong with Team India!

It's a brand new year but alas it's the same old story for Team India! 2013 begins with yet another series loss and this time to arch-rivals Pakistan! MS Dhoni and Co have lost the ongoing home series, giving Pakistan their third bilateral series win. We sit down and dissect India's loss and attempt to figure out what is ailing the 2011 World Champions.

The opening pair hasn't clicked:
The Delhi duo of Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag has failed miserably to counter the Pakistani pacemen. Gambhir seems out of sorts and Sehwag who averaged a paltry 21.70 in the 2012, has done very little to terrorize the Pakistan bowlers. Ajinkya Rahane who handled the pacers well in T20s hasn't been given a chance and it’s time Dhoni acted upon it!

Middle order looks misplaced:
The likes of Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma have all failed to click. The purple patch of Virat Kohli has fizzled out. Only MS Dhoni, who scored a brillaint century at Chennai and a fifty at Kolkata stands out. Why didn't Dhoni promote himself up the order? Why was Ajinkya Rahane kept out after his brilliant show in the T20s? Why was Ravindra Jadeja picked over Ajinkya Rahane?

Duncan Fletcher, you must go!:Yes, outgoing Gary Kirsten had suggested Fletcher's name as his 'perfect replacement' but it all seems imperfect for Team India. 8 away losses in Tests, home Test defeat to England, Asia Cup and T20 World Cup exits and now a series loss to Pakistan. Bowlers lack direction and desire:
Zaheer Khan was dropped for his poor form and in came Ishant Sharma, Ashok Dinda. In the series, both the bowlers have struggled with their line and length and failed to cause problems to the Pakistani batsmen. The spin department can be also termed the same. Dhoni needs rest:
He may not admit it but our skipper for all three formats (Tests, ODI and T20) MS Dhoni does require rest! Dhoni's tactics have gone horribly wrong .Even though Dhoni has clicked with the bat, the World Cup winning captain is losing his gloss as a charismatic leader. Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, England have adopted split captaincy theory. In order to progess further, Dhoni needs to let go off at least one leadership role and hand over the mantle to another member of the team.

Sachin was sorely missed:
The Master Blaster quit ODIs last month in order to concentrate more on the Tests. Sachin Tendulkar who scored 18,426 in 463 games at an average of 44.83 was sorely missed in the 50-over format. The team lacked the precision and discipline of Sachin on the field and it showed with their tiring performance. Can Sachin do a Paul Scholes? Many Indians wouldn't mind!
