Priyadarshan originally hails from Kerala, India. His father Mr Nair used to work as a librarian at the University of Kerala. This is how Priyadarshan became an avid reader and started reading the work of great literary writers.His first love was cricket but he had to abandon the sport because of an injury to his left eye. As a rule Priyadarshan is seen in dark glasses at most events to mask the injury to his eye. He is married to the Malyalam actress Lizzy (Lakshmi Priyadarshini) whom he met when he was directing his second film. Priyadarshan has one son called Sidharth and a daughter called Kalyani.Mohanlal one of the top actors of the Malyalam industry is a close friend of Priyadarshan. Priyadarshan is popularly known as the remake specialist as he tends to get 'inspired' by Hollywood films without giving credit for the same. Apart from Malyalam he directs films in Tamil Telugu and Hindi.Priyadarshan won the Kerala State Award for Best Director in 1995. His film Thenmavin Kombath (1994), won this for Best Film With Popular Appeal and Aesthetic Value.
