Ravi Ruia is the Vice Chairman of Essar Global Limited. He finished his graduation in engineering. Essar employs more than 50,000 people across offices in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas. He started his career in the family business in 1969 and joined his elder brother Shashi Ruia. The brothers played a pivotal role towards steering the Essar Group to its current position of preeminence. He was also responsible for setting up the overseas ventures of the Group. He led the way for Essar`s foray into telecommunications and in growing the business to a premier position in the Indian market. Mr Ruia is the Chairman of Vodafone Essar, India's third largest telecommunication company. Mr Ravi Ruia has been the spearhead in new ventures including Trinidad & Tobago, Vietnam and the Middle East, as well as the recent acquisitions of Algoma Steel (now called Essar Steel Algoma), Canada, and Minnesota Steel, USA (now called Essar Steel Minnesota).
