Riya Sen was born on 24th January, 1981 in Kolkata, West Bengal. Her mother Moon Moon Sen was an acclaimed actress in the Bengali film industry as well as in Bollywood.
Riya's first appearance onscreen was as a child artiste in the 1991 film 'Vishkanya' where she played the role of the young Pooja Bedi.
She went on to taste success in the Bollywood industry with the movie 'Style' in 2001. It was Riya's debut flick.
Riya was soon seen in the multi-starrer 'Jhankaar Beats' which also starred the likes of Rahul Bose, Sanjay Suri and Juhi Chawla. In 2005, she also appeared in 'Shaadi No. 1', which was directed by David Dhawan.
She went on to act in movies like 'Qayamat', 'Plan' and 'Dil Vil Pyar Vyar', but these did not manage to create any buzz at the box office.
Besides acting in the Hindi movie industry, Riya has also acted in Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and English films.
Her noted regional films were 'Ananthabhadram', 'Taj Mahal' and 'It Was Raining That Night', among others.
Riya has also appeared on several magazine covers, including the likes of Femina, Elaan, Man's World, Gladrags, Savvy, Elle, Maxim and Cosmopolitan.
Riya's sexy photoshoot for Dabboo Ratnani's annual calendar was quite popular.
She has endorsed prominent brands like Limca, Colgate, Dabur Vatika, Reliance Industries, Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate, and Nirma.
But Riya will always be remembered for the infamous MMS scandal when clips of passionate moments between her and her-then boyfriend Ashmit Patel were leaked on the internet.
Riya was ranked ninth on Femina's list of the 50 Most Beautiful Women in 2007.
Riya's sister Raima Sen is also well-known actress in the Bollywood industry.
She was recently linked to controversial writer Salman Rushdie. She denied the rumours.
