The moment I have been waiting for since the auditions...
2) The first episode in Adelaide was the 1st international shoot of Roadies that was executed exactly the way we wanted it. Along with the Roadies, the crew was also excited and the shoot was by far the best and we managed to get exactly what we wanted from the shoot. In terms of producing the show, I feel we got what we wanted. Besides this, the only problem that we faced was that we were flying to Australia for our shoot when Bombay was under the grip of terrorists. We got this news only after we reached the airport. Everyone was in a state of chaos, the crew was worried about their families and friends. There were so many issues that we had to face at the airport, the crew was extremely tired, distressed and emotional about what was happening back home in India. We happened to reach Australia a day late but we still we managed to pull of a great show.
3) I’d like to clear one thing out. I do not have any attachment to these people, the only reason they managed to get back was they had strong back up from previous episodes.
Sufi had no doubt proved himself in the first episode but still got voted out because the others did not get a chance to know him and as some of the Roadies claimed he had a small name that they could remember, everyone felt that his come back would create a big twist after his struggle and we were interested in seeing whether he still stood by his values and to see what he was really made of.
Now when it comes to Palak the story is completely different, she is the most controversial Roadie till date. We felt that by the time she started showing her true colours she was voted out. We wanted more of her, we believed that we did not have enough of her out of control behavior and since we were going international, her temper had to be the icing on the cake.
Nauman on the other hand has come back because of the so called love story between him and Tamanna, when he was voted out, there was nobody who was on his side except Tamanna and now since he is back, let’s see if he can create a group dynamic with her. This was the reason why we got these 3 back, we wanted to create an interest in the show.
4)Even though these guys were called back, it was not going to be easy for them to stay back. Before the chits were pulled out before the task, we asked the Roadies who were called back whom did they want to challenge. That is why we gave them a 2 hour break to decide. In that 2 hours we realized that the chit system would create a balance, and it was luck, plus the wild card entries were holding grudges against the other Roadies and we wanted it to be fair.
The outcome would have been the same, if they had to choose whom they wanted to challenge or if it was the chits. They would have to do anything to survive and stay or get back into the show. This is not a “saas bahu” show, it’s survival of the fittest and they had to prove themselves. If they did not I would have made them do it.
5) Even the task that was set up in Australia was unique, these tasks have never been seen or done and impossible to setup in India, and this would also increase the production value. These tasks were one on one and it was a live or die situation for the Roadies. They had no other choice but to do what they had to just to stay back.
6) Even though the teams were broken up back in India, the Brats were always united. The show dynamics had turned toward them, if they found someone weak in the Om Blues and they would eliminate them. This had created a sense of over confidence with these guys. The moment the Roadies from the Om Blues saw that these people were only strong as a team, and nothing when they fought alone, they turned the tables on the Brats, the moment they found a weak link in their team and slowly started eliminating them leading the Brats to fall and crumble. The saying ‘what goes around comes around’ fits the situation. Having 2 teams was a real success for the show, but the twist that has lead them to fight against each other has made it even more interesting.
7) Crew and I are really proud of the work that we have put in to get Roadies to such a high platform. We have managed to blend our culture with the Australians.
