Have you missed the action throughout the week? Were you too busy with the work load? Were you reading your syllabus instead of the daily news? Were you busy listening to your girlfriend’s complaints than the breaking story?
Chill, take a cup of coffee as we tell you the newsmakers of the week. So are you ready?
Ajmal Kasab
Why?
Finally the death sentence of Ajmal Kasab was enforced. (So is it an honor that the government has finally realized that the security of the citizens is an important agenda rather than mehmaan-nawazi?)
What?
26.11.2012: A day that is embossed in the heart of each and every Mumbaikar. Kasab and 9 terrorists launch commandos raided the island city. Open firing, killing of our policemen and innocent people marked a stop to this terrorist attack. Though the other 9 terrorists were killed, Kasab was captured alive.
WTB?
While almost 35 crores were spent to keep Kasab alive, it took 4 long years to finally act on his execution. A tweet that best describes our WTB (Wat the buzz!!) factor:
E-tard @14_yr_old_Etard
Death sentence for Ajmal Kasab, says Supreme Court. Now let's all wait for a few more years to hear the date of judicial hanging.
Salman Khan
Why?
Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger has crossed the 200 crore club.
What?
With critics smashing the movie, it looks as if the fan brigade doesn’t mind spending the moolahs to see their favorite star on screen. The most awaited Salman and Katrina starrer and Salman’s first venture with YRF has proved to be a million dollar baby.
WTB?
Kabir Khan directed ETT grossed over 200 crore in less than a fortnight. Besides creating the record for highest opening day ever with a Rs. 32.92 crore, the movie also created a new record for the fastest Rs. 100 crore earning at the box office. And we keep counting….
Unmukt Chand
Why?
You want to know the reason?? Really! This smashing dashing dude has made every Indian proud. The captain of U-19 Cricket team lifts the world cup, defeating the Australian champs.
What?
After scoring a momentous century in the final match of the U-19 World Cup, all eyes are on team skipper Unmukt Chand.
WTB?
Unmukt Chand is struggling to retain his seat as a BA student of St Stephen’s College. There’s also not much room for pleading because principal Valsan Thampu is a man of ‘rules’ and not a cricket fan.
Lance Armstrong
Why?
Lance Armstrong, who won the Tour de France a record 7 consecutive time after having survived testicular cancer has been stripped of all his titles and banned for life by the US anti-doping agency.
What?
The move came from the side of the doping agencies when Lance refused to fight against the doping charges levied on him. He said, “But I refuse to participate in a process that is so one-sided and unfair. From the beginning, however, this investigation has not been about learning the truth or cleaning up cycling, but about punishing me at all costs."
WTB?
Irrespective of the ban he would always command respect for his fighting spirit with which he won over his cancer.
Manmohan Singh
Why?
As the Coalgate scam came to light the media and countrymen wanted to hear our Prime Minister’s opinion. But Mr. Manmohan Singh negated the report findings by saying “baseless and unsupported by the facts”..
What?
Coalgate a scandal in which CAG accused the Government of India for providing the nation's coal deposits to private and state-run entities in an irregular and arbitrary manner instead of publicly auctioning them off to the highest bidder, resulting in a loss of approximately 186,000 crore (US$33.67 billion) to the exchequer during the period 2004-2009.
WTB?
"Hazaron jawabo se achchi hai khamoshi meri, na jaane kitne sawalo ki aabru rakhe,” Mr. Prime Minister said in his speech. Well, the aam janta is waiting since years to break your khamoshi.
