Shyamala Gopinath, born 20 June 1949 (1949-06-20) (age 59), is the deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) since 21 September, 2004. She holds a Master\s degree in commerce, and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance. She had joined the RBI as an officer in April, 1972, and has worked in different capacities including Executive Director of the RBI from June 2003 until her elevation to the position of the deputy governor of the RBI. She had also served for two years (2001–2003) on deputation to the International Monetary Fund.
