Smita Thackeray, a Hindi Film producer-politician is the wife of the Bal Thackeray's son Jaidev Thackeray. Smita got her graduate degree from Ruparel College in Mumbai. She worked as a passport office receptionist in Mumbai, after which she opened her own beauty parlour. Around the same time, she met Jaidev Thackeray, who left his first wife so he could marry Smita.
On October 27, 2004, she got divorced from Jaidev, but she continued to live at her in-laws' place and supported Bal Thackeray - her father-in-law. Three years ago, Jaidev left home but Smita continued to live there for a few more years until she moved out. She has been a film producer and financed projects like Haseena Maan Jayegi in 1999. It was her first production, directed by David Dhawan.
Recently, she will produce a mega-budget mytho cum fantasy based TV serial, Kalki on COLORS channel. Smita is an active social worker; she is connected with the betterment of the community and has done some work for it.
She runs the Mukti Foundation, which aims at creating alertness between people regarding AIDS and helps the poor people.
